Sheltering Arms Corporation announced that Dr. Dianne V. Jewell, PT, DPT, PhD, FAPTA has been appointed president and chief executive officer. Jewell will lead Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers’ team across its network of outpatient physical rehabilitation clinics and wellness centers throughout central Virginia.

Dr. Jewell has served as a key leader in a variety of capacities at Sheltering Arms, including as a long-time board member and former chair, helping to grow the organization’s service offerings and launch a strategic joint venture with VCU Health, which have elevated Sheltering Arms’ stature as a leader in the field of physical rehabilitation.

Prior to joining Sheltering Arms, Jewell spent more than 30 years practicing physical therapy in an array of health settings. Most recently, she served as director of clinical practice, outcomes and education at WebPT, a rehabilitation therapies technology company. She also held a faculty appointment in the Department of Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Jewell is actively engaged in several scientific and professional societies including the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Virginia Physical Therapy Association, and American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. She has authored and published multiple peer-reviewed articles and textbooks and is managing editor of the Physical Therapy Journal of Policy, Administration and Leadership.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from Williams College and a Master of Physical Therapy from Boston University. In addition, she obtained a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and Doctor of Philosophy in health services research and organization degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
