Stroke Rehabilitation

Stroke survivors often face complex problems and challenges that are as varied as each individual person. Accordingly, a stroke rehabilitation program must be broad and sophisticated to assist each patient toward maximal progress and recovery. Sheltering Arms hospitals offer a full range of up-to-date services to help stroke survivors and their family members.

Physical therapists help individuals regain muscle strength, flexibility, balance and mobility, while occupational therapists work with patients on essential daily activities, such as grooming, bathing and dressing. Occupational therapists can also help with other activities of daily living, such as meal planning and money management, to further increase independence. Speech-language pathologists evaluate the patients' abilities to express themselves and understand others, and when necessary, speech-language pathologists address swallowing issues.

Medical psychology often plays an essential role in the rehabilitation process by helping patients with emotional adjustment following a stroke. Rehabilitation physicians, nurses and case managers oversee the rehabilitation process, ensuring medical stability and coordination of care, in addition to discharge planning and making recommendations for next steps following inpatient rehabilitation.

Stroke recovery continues beyond the hospital setting. Sheltering Arms offers a full continuum of outpatient and health and wellness services, including a support group for stroke survivors and their caregivers.

Stroke can affect anyone at any time, and Sheltering Arms is committed to helping everyone find the Power to Overcome.
